St. Mary Elementary is pleased to support our Plus Program.

Advantages of our "Plus Program"
 * Opportunities for extended individual instruction
 * Learning activities centered around bi-monthly themes

* Fun enrichment activities that complement the Preschool and Kindergarten programs
 * A safe and caring school environment
 * Stability in the daily schedule of children
 * An option for children who are ready to attend school from  8:50 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Pre-School:  the students attend their regular preschool session, and spend the other half of the day in the plus program.
Kindergarten
:  the students attend Kindergarten all day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday;  Tuesday and Thursday is spent in the all day plus program.

The primary focus in our Plus Program will be on social and emotional development. Many fundamental life skills are taught through a variety of opportunities to explore new choices and discover new skills. Some of these skills include:

·        Effective communication                 ·        Respect for self and others

·        Non-violent conflict resolution        ·        Healthy emotional expression

·        Empathy toward others                  ·        Self-discipline

We operate with a staff-to-child ratio of 1-to-12, which allows for special individualized attention. The focus on social and emotional development within a caring and nurturing environment makes this a unique and valuable experience.

The Plus Program will be comprised of extended (but not new) learning opportunities which may include:

Language Arts Reinforcement - a review of the basic curriculum with practice in writing skills, vocabulary development, and readiness skills.
Math Reinforcement - a review of the basic curriculum and application of those concepts.
Social Skills Development
- working in various centers to promote cooperation, creativity, vocabulary, and language development.
Motor Skills Development
- practice with fine and gross motor skills through activities with paper and pencil, cutting, lacing, jumping, skipping, hopping, and balancing.

Faith Development
- more opportunities to participate in faith enriching activities
