Fasting

Are you called to Fast?  Join us!

Satan is the big liar and his lies find their way into our hearts from time to time. The battle between good and evil continues, but our hope is in the Lord and the complete victory He has won for us!

Periodically, staff members and friends fast and pray for our parish and school,  that our hearts will cry out to God for guidance and that we can be a community that will truly shine His light.

Here are some examples of when scripture tells us to Fast and Pray:

The Lord tells us in Matthew 6:16-18 that when we fast, we are to do it unto the Lord. He doesn't say if we fast.

In Joel 1:14 the people are mourning over the destruction of their crops and the Lord tells them to call an assembly and fast.

In Matthew 4:1-4 Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert to fast for 40 days.
(When we fast, we receive spiritual cleansing and our spiritual eyes are opened, and we also obtain victory over the devil. When Jesus encountered Satan, He was able to overcome Him because His fasting had given Him spiritual strength).

Ezra fasted because he mourned over the sins of the people

In Ezra 8:21-23 Ezra Lead the People in Fasting and Prayer to humble themselves before the Lord to lead and protect them on their journey.  They fasted and prayed and God answered their prayers.

In 2 Samuel 12:16 David fasted while his son was sick

In Esther 4:15-5:8 Esther, her maidens, and her people fasted when she went to see the king because her people were in danger and she was in danger for seeing the king without being scheduled.

Also, here are examples of some fasts:

(1) Normal Fast - No food, water only.

(2) Partial Fast - Abstinence from certain kinds of foods (No meat, chocolate, candy, etc.)

(3) Juice Fast - Fruit and vegetable juices only.

(4) Total or Absolute Fast - Absolutely no food or water (Caution: Should not be done for more than three days and only then if you have a clear directive from the Lord and are in good health).
